Gender Pay Gap: 10 Promising Practices to Close It

There is no denying that there is a gender gap, particularly at senior level positions. The only question is how big is it. Some say it's "only" 10%. Would you be willing to give up 10% of your pay? Of course, not every pay differential in play is due to gender. How society values positions and choices individuals make are relevant, too. But where a gap exists and there is no credible basis to explain it, the employer's exposure to liability is substantial. The gender gap also results in a lack of engagement and retention, when women realize they are being paid less for no clear reason. The EEOC's new EEO-1 reporting requirement will bring apparent gaps to the attention of the EEOC. It also will provide an employer with information that it ignores at its peril. This program includes 10 promising practices for employers to consider to close the gender pay gap. The recommendations are based, in part, on laws and proposed laws at the federal, state and local level. Stay ahead of the legal curve. The business imperative is just as important.
