    Spring/Summer 2020 Lunch & Learn Series

    Session 3 - Tuesday, July 28, 2020

THIS WILL BE A VIRTUAL SESSION HELD VIA ZOOM

Women in the Workplace: From Rosie the Riveter

    to Me Too and Beyond

In honor of the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage, this session will trace the experiences of women in the workplace over the years, and the laws that have affected their ability to work.  We will look at the current state of the law, including protections under the Title VII, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, and the Equal Pay Act, as well as issues such as sexual harassment, dress code anomalies and work-related strength testing.  We will look at current issues, including the Me-Too movement, qual pay initiatives (including salary history ordinances), proposed revisions to the Equal Pay Act, and attempts to revive the Equal Rights Amendment.  We also look forward to what future years may hold for women in the workplace.

Attendees of this session will be able to:

    • Have an understanding of the historical challenges faced by women in the workplace to provide context for today’s challenges.

    • Understand the laws that must be kept in mind when dealing with issues pertaining to women in the workplace.

    • Be better equipped to understand and be proactive about women’s issues in the workplace.
