Follow-up on a question asked at the meeting:

In general, can an individual use their HSA funds for eligible expenses for a same sex spouse?

Yes, last year, the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was ruled to be unconstitutional and repealed.   For federal tax purposes, qualified medical expenses (QME) now include expenses incurred for same-sex spouse, regardless of where they are located/living.  Under new rules issued by the U.S. Department of Treasury, same-sex couples who are legally married in any state will be treated as married for federal tax purposes, regardless of whether or not the state where they reside recognizes same-sex marriages.
