     Reasonable Suspicion

Training for Drugs and Alcohol in the Workplace

This training prepares HR professionals and supervisors to confidently handle situations where an employee may be impaired at work. It focuses on maintaining a safe workplace, reducing organizational risk, and ensuring consistent application of the company’s drug‑free workplace policy. Participants learn how to observe and document concerning behavior, initiate reasonable suspicion testing, communicate effectively with employees, and manage the full testing and follow‑up process. The session also emphasizes HR’s role in supporting employees through next steps, whether that involves returning to work, disciplinary action, or referral to assistance programs. At the end of the training, there will be time for Q&A so participants can address real‑world scenarios and clarify any part of the process.

Following this presentation, participants will be able to . . .

    • Understand program manager’s responsibility in enforcing drug‑free workplace policies and ensuring consistent, compliant handling of reasonable suspicion cases.
    • Apply proper documentation and communication practices to reduce organizational risk and support fair, defensible decision‑making.
    • Navigate post‑test outcomes by coordinating with management, unions (if applicable), and employee support programs to determine next steps.
